Hello, Medium Friends. It’s nice to see you. Welcome to the gorgeous mountains of North Carolina. That photo at the top of my profile page is the view from my deck.

Come sit with me, enjoy the view, and sip a glass of iced tea (sweet or unsweet, it’s up to you). We can chat about life, Medium, and whatever's in bloom this week. These are mountain laurel. I love the starlike shape of the buds just before they open and the sweet blooms with magenta accents.

If you don’t know me yet, I’m a librarian-turned-business professor at a little college. I live with The Spouse Who Shall Not Be Named (he’s a very private person) and our cats, Tiny and Bunny. I haven't written about them yet, but they are bonded brothers we adopted together. They are a constant source of amusement.

I also run Messy Desk Consulting. Messy Desk started as a personal coaching company for "geniuses, creatives, and other messy desk types" but it has become a sort of umbrella company for my side interests--of which I have many. Most recently, the Messy Desk imprint published Nature First: Living in the Southern Appalachians by Linda Martinson. I also do consulting for libraries and other nonprofits.

My writing on Medium is a bit random. But it is always well-researched, heartfelt, or some combination of both those things.

Please, do click that "follow" button so you can see my posts as they appear. I was on hiatus during the 2023-24 academic year (starting that new job!), but I try to post about once a week, more often in the summer and on academic breaks.

Also, if you aren’t already a member of Medium, I encourage you to join. I promise it’s worth the subscription price to read the work of people who are much more interesting than I am.
